Downey Is Doom: The Comeback Nobody Predicted
Blockbuster Zone Original · By Sean O’Friel
Robert Downey Jr. built the Marvel era as Iron Man — the first face of the MCU, and the one fans said goodbye to in Avengers: Endgame. So when Marvel brought him back, it was never going to be as the hero. In Avengers: Doomsday he returns as Victor von Doom, the armored ruler of Latveria and the most dangerous mind in Marvel comics.
It is the boldest casting swing a studio has taken in years. Downey knows exactly what his face means to this audience — and now that meaning becomes the weapon. Every time Doom lifts his mask, the Avengers are not just fighting a villain; they are fighting the ghost of the man who saved them.
Marvel doubled down behind the camera, too. Anthony and Joe Russo, who directed Infinity War and Endgame, are back to steer the Avengers again. If anyone knows how to land a crossover of this size, it is them.

What We Know About the Story So Far
Blockbuster Zone Original · By Sean O’Friel
Marvel is keeping the plot locked down, but the shape of it is clear. Doctor Doom makes his move, the Avengers assemble to stop him, and the fallout sets up Avengers: Secret Wars — already dated for December 17, 2027, exactly one year later.
The confirmed cast mixes eras in a way no Avengers film has before. Alongside Downey’s Doom, Pedro Pascal and Vanessa Kirby step in from Marvel’s First Family, the Fantastic Four — which tells you Doom’s story will not stay in one corner of the universe. This is the multiverse saga reaching its boiling point, with heroes from different worlds pulled into the same fight.
What to watch for: how Doom is introduced — as a threat the Avengers understand too late, if the comics are any guide — which heroes actually make the call to assemble, and the first real clues about how Secret Wars rebuilds everything in 2027.
Why It Matters
“Dunesday”: Why December 18 Is Bigger Than One Movie
Blockbuster Zone Original · By Sean O’Friel
On December 18, 2026, Avengers: Doomsday opens on the exact same day as Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Three. Two event films, one Friday, and a fight for the same IMAX screens. Fans have already named it “Dunesday,” and it is shaping up to be the biggest single day at the movies in years.
That is why Doomsday sits at the top of this site. It is Marvel’s first Avengers film since Endgame, the return of its biggest star in the most unexpected role imaginable, and half of a double feature people will be telling stories about — whichever one they see first.
Our advice: book the big screen early, see both, and argue about the order afterwards. The countdown at the top of this page is running — we will be covering every trailer, casting surprise, and ticket milestone between now and December 18 right here.
No movies match that search — try another title.
Release Calendar
Every date that matters between now and the end of 2027, in order. U.S. theatrical dates — studios do move them, so this is the plan as of November 4, 2026.

About Blockbuster Zone
Blockbuster Zone is owned and operated by Sean O'Friel. It is a movie hub in the same spirit as a streaming home page: what's playing right now, what's coming up next, and the films from the last ten years that are actually worth your time. No endless scroll of filler — just the releases, the dates, and the box office, kept straight.
Right now the story of the season is December 18, 2026: Marvel's Avengers: Doomsday and Denis Villeneuve's Dune: Part Three opening on the very same day. Pick a side — or do the double feature.
Staying in instead? Our Stream Free section rounds up the best legal places to watch movies for free — Tubi, Pluto TV, The Roku Channel, Fandango at Home, and more — no subscription required.

Privacy Policy
Last updated November 6, 2026
Blockbuster Zone (BlockbusterZone.com) is owned and operated by Sean O’Friel of New York. This policy explains, in plain language, what information this site collects, what it does not collect, and how advertising — including Google AdSense — uses cookies on this site.
Information we collect
Blockbuster Zone has no user accounts, no sign-ups, no comment forms, and no checkout. We do not ask you for your name, address, or payment details in order to use the site, and we do not sell personal information.
Movie Night Points, your watched marks, star ratings, and short reviews are stored only in your own browser’s local storage on your device. They are never sent to us or anyone else, and clearing your browser data deletes them.
Email: If you email us, we receive your email address and the contents of your message. We use them only to read and reply to you.
Features in your browser: The movie search and the “My List” feature run entirely in your browser, on your device. Your My List picks are kept only in the page’s memory while the page is open. They are not saved, stored on a server, or sent anywhere, and they clear when you reload or leave the page.
Hosting logs: This site is hosted on GitHub Pages. Like any web host, GitHub may automatically log standard technical information (such as your IP address and browser type) when your browser requests a page. That processing is governed by GitHub’s own privacy policy, not by us.
Cookies and advertising
The site itself does not set cookies for its own features. Advertising is different:
House ads. The labeled ad slots currently promoting Blockbuster Zone itself are served as part of this page. They set no cookies and track nothing.
Google AdSense. This site is prepared to show ads through Google AdSense. When AdSense ads are served, third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website and other websites on the internet.
Personalized ads. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables Google and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google’s My Ad Center / Ads Settings, and you can opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info. Turning off personalization does not remove ads; it makes them less tailored.
Your browser controls. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time. The site’s movie listings, search, and My List still work without advertising cookies.
External links and trailers
Pages on Blockbuster Zone link out to other sites — for example, YouTube for official trailers, and Entertainment Weekly, Rotten Tomatoes, Metacritic, and Box Office Mojo as sources. When you follow a link, that site’s own privacy policy applies. We do not control, and are not responsible for, the privacy practices of other sites.
How we use and share information
We use information only to operate and improve this site and to reply to emails. We do not sell or rent personal information. We may disclose information only if required by law, or to protect the rights and safety of this site and its visitors.
Your choices and rights
If you have emailed us, you may ask us to correct or delete your email and message by writing to us through the Contact Us page. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information and to opt out of personalized advertising, as described in the cookies section above.
Children’s privacy
Blockbuster Zone is a general-audience movie information site. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Data retention and security
Emails are kept only for as long as they are needed to handle the conversation. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable care with the small amount of information this site handles.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date at the top. Questions about privacy can be sent through the Contact Us page or by email to sean.ofriel@aol.com.
Terms & Conditions
Last updated November 6, 2026
By using Blockbuster Zone (BlockbusterZone.com), you agree to these terms. Blockbuster Zone is owned and operated by Sean O’Friel.
An editorial information service
Blockbuster Zone is an independent, editorial movie-information site supported by advertising. Release dates, box-office figures, and rankings are provided for general information and entertainment. Studios move release dates often. While we check our information against published sources, we cannot guarantee that every date or figure is complete, current, or free of error, and nothing here is a promise that a film will open on a listed date.
Advertising and sponsored content
Advertising on this site is always labeled “Advertisement.” Ads may promote Blockbuster Zone itself (house ads), a paying sponsor, or ads served by Google AdSense. Paying for advertising does not buy coverage, a ranking, or a place in the Top 10, and sponsors do not review or approve editorial content before it is published. Blockbuster Zone does not endorse the products or services shown in third-party advertisements; any purchase you make from an advertiser is between you and that advertiser.
If you are a rights holder and believe material on this site infringes your copyright, please contact us through the Contact Us page with the name of the film or image, the page where it appears, and a statement that you are the rights holder or are authorized to act for them. Valid requests for a credit correction or removal are handled promptly.
Links to third-party sites, including official trailers on YouTube, are provided for reference. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, accuracy, or availability.
No warranties and liability
The site is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operator is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, information published here.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York and the United States.
Changes and contact
These terms may be updated from time to time; the current version will always be posted on this page with its date at the top. Questions can be sent through the Contact Us page.
About Us
Blockbuster Zone is owned and operated by Sean O'Friel, a movie fan based in New York who built and curates the site himself. Blockbuster Zone is a movie information hub: what's playing in theaters now, what's coming up next, the big dates for 2027, and a Top 10 of the past ten years — the releases, the dates, and the box office, kept straight, with no endless scroll of filler.
The biggest story on the calendar right now is December 18, 2026 — “Dunesday” — when Marvel's Avengers: Doomsday and Denis Villeneuve's Dune: Part Three open on the very same day.
Blockbuster Zone is supported by advertising. Every ad slot on the site is labeled “Advertisement” — including the house ads that currently promote Blockbuster Zone itself. Advertisers and sponsors have no say in release coverage, rankings, or the Top 10. Details for sponsors are on the Advertise With Us page, and how Google AdSense advertising works is explained on the AdSense page; both are linked in the footer.
Sources
Release dates and box-office figures are checked against published industry sources, including Entertainment Weekly's release guide, Rotten Tomatoes, Metacritic's release calendar, and Box Office Mojo. The Top 10 is an editorial ranking by the site's owner, weighing awards, box office, and lasting impact.

Sponsor placements on BlockbusterZone.com
Blockbuster Zone reaches movie fans who are actively planning what to watch: what is in theaters now, what opens next, and which trailers to watch first. Advertising is available in the two placements below. Every placement is labeled “Advertisement” on the page, so readers always know what is an ad and what is editorial content.
Placements and sizes
Placement
Size
Where it appears
Top Leaderboard
728 × 90 — responsive on phones
At the top of the site, directly below the header and above the featured premiere.
In-Feed
Responsive card (300 × 250 equivalent)
Inside the movie listings, after every six movie cards.
Sizes are standard IAB-style placements. Both placements resize for phones and tablets, so a single responsive creative works across devices. Until a placement is booked by a sponsor, it carries a clearly labeled house ad for Blockbuster Zone itself.
Advertising standards
Ads must be truthful and clearly identifiable as advertising. No misleading claims, fake buttons, or creative designed to look like editorial content or a system message.
Ads must be lawful and appropriate for a general movie audience. No malware, deceptive downloads, or illegal products or services.
Buying an ad does not buy coverage. Sponsors do not influence release dates, reviews, rankings, or the Top 10, and do not preview editorial content.
We may decline or remove any ad that does not meet these standards.
Rates and booking
Rates and availability are quoted on request — they depend on the placement, the dates, and the length of the run. To book or ask a question, email the site’s owner, Sean O’Friel, with your business name, the placement you want, your preferred dates, and your creative in the sizes above:
Blockbuster Zone is run by one person, so replies may take a little time, but every sponsor inquiry is read and answered.
AdSense & Google Ads
How Google advertising works on Blockbuster Zone
Blockbuster Zone is set up to show advertising through Google AdSense, Google’s program that places ads from many advertisers into the labeled ad slots on a website. This page explains what that means for you as a reader.
Where the ads appear
AdSense ads, when served, appear only in the same labeled slots described on the Advertise With Us page: the top leaderboard and the in-feed slots after every six movie cards. Every one is labeled “Advertisement.” Until AdSense ads are served in a slot, the slot carries a house ad for Blockbuster Zone itself.
Cookies and personalized ads
Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website and other websites. Google’s advertising cookies enable Google and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet. That is how an ad can be “personalized” — chosen using your visits and interests rather than the page you are on.
Your choices
Opt out of personalized ads: You can turn off personalized advertising in Google’s My Ad Center / Ads Settings. You will still see ads, but they will not be based on your visits and interests.
Third-party vendors: You can opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info.
Block cookies: You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The movie listings, search, trailers, and My List on this site still work.
Google and AdSense advertisers do not choose, review, or influence Blockbuster Zone’s movie coverage, release dates, rankings, or Top 10. Showing an ad is not an endorsement of the advertiser or its products by Blockbuster Zone or its owner, Sean O’Friel.
